As the Head of Executive Leadership Development and Inclusion at Rakuten, John leads the global diversity and inclusion business strategy, as well as development for CEOs of Rakuten Americas. He ensures that diversity and inclusion are integrated into business priorities and that executives are equipped with tools to help them grow as leaders of tomorrow.
Prior to Rakuten, John worked in varying roles in leadership development. At Uber, he led the people development strategy for the global Uber Eats business, championing alignment among the executive team and integration of learning and development into the larger business strategy. And at LinkedIn, John managed the global business leadership program focused on recruiting and developing talent from diverse backgrounds and ensuring they were placed in high-profile, impactful roles throughout the company.
John began his career in public education as a member of Teach for America. Over eight years, he served as a teacher and administrator, most notably co-founding KIPP Philosophers Academy in South Los Angeles in 2012, resulting in the school becoming the highest rated new school ever in Los Angeles Unified School District history.
John holds a BA in English Language and Literature with Honors from the University of Chicago, an MS in Teaching and Education from the Pace University School of Education, an MBA in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a professional coaching certificate from the Co-Active Training Institute. He is also an alum of Education Pioneers and Management Leadership for Tomorrow. John supports organizations via strategy consulting, workshops, and team/group coaching.
